[Dx-qsl] DX Confusion

I think the biggest mistake new hams (and some older hams) make is thinking
DX stations want or need or QSL from W Land . It's quite the opposite in
most case. Most active DX ops have more than enough W's on thier walls (and
in their shoeboxes).

The correct protocols of DXing are important if you want to snag that
special card. I believe many hams are ignorant of how to go about this
because the art of Elmering is sadly dying, and correct QSLing is certainly
not a natural instinct. However, there are excellent books out there to help
(if you indeed want to learn). Try "The Complete DXer"
by R. C. Locher. He will teach you how to find 'em, work 'em, and confirm
'em.

Most importantly, DON'T EXCEPT the DX op to pay the postage to send a card
to you. I have always included 2 GS's, and 99 % of the DX stations I have
worked use them and appreciate the courtesy. Personally, any card I have
received (that I did not request) that did not provide for return postage, I
have returned via the Bureau (or Buro), which can be time consuming indeed.

When working W's, ALWAYS send an SASE ! Many older hams (and there are many
older hams) are on fised income and really can't afford to send you a card
at their own expense. Many of them will, because they are classy OM's (or
YL's), but it is wrong to amke them do this.

So gud DX es 73,
Dave
