Populated the parts of the 1296 RSU board supporting A5, the LO final
amplifier. At that point I read 1152.001 MHz! (Metex MXG-9802A
counter.)
Don't have a power meter that goes that high (in frequency), but
extrapolating from the one I do have (KA7EXM) looks like I'm getting
somewhere between 0 and +20 dBm at that point. :-) +20 dBm is, of
course, nonsense but the measurement is consistent with ("not
inconsistent with"?) the +5 dBm range expected.
The IF rig here is a DSP-10 which nominally puts out 13 dBm barefoot
and can be turned down in 1 dB increments from there. It was designed
for this application but this is the first time I've had it off 2
meters.
Received a Hammond HM-838ND from Digikey in which I hope to mount the
whole transverter. Goal is to be QRV for tomorrows QSO party, but, as
always, it's iffy if I can get everything done by then and if anything
goes wrong I'm hosed. At this stage I'm usually saying 50/50.
Anyway, the only outside antenna I have for 1296 is a discone. To
work somebody at this power level on that antenna will mean a real
close neighbor or W6TRW is on the air and I can talk them into beaming
exactly this way. ... and they can copy CW... We'll see.
For now...
Next: finish populating the receiver side and see if I can hear
myself from an FM HT. (IC-12AT and/or IC-T81A)
