As a general practice, the best way to identify pin 1 is to go to the 
manufactures Web site and download the datasheet for the part.  The 
different case types are usually shown in the last pages of the datasheet. 
Can't figure out the maker?  Try
http://directory.google.com/Top/Science/Technology/Electronics/Reference/Chip_Directory/
for several sites that will help you ID the chip.
