[DSP-10] ADI Tools on Windows XP Question

It's been a few months, so I thought I'd ask again.

Has anyone on this list been successful in running the Analog Devices
DOS-based DSP tools under Windows XP? If so, will you share the method and
settings you used to be successful at this?

I have managed to install things, using the environment variable editor
under Win XP to set the path, the ADI, ADI_DSP and ADII variables. When I
type "path" at the command prompt, I see the various adi paths.

But, when I try and assemble and link a known good set of source files, I
get the error message:

   Unable to open lnk_errs.str

The list of things in the path variable is quite long, and the ADI stuff is
at the end, and it may be that is the problem. I have tried moving the
lnk_errs.str file to every directory in the path, and the current working
directory, all to no avail. And the executable tools find themselves OK,
such as asm21 and ld21. It is the "etc" that aren't being found.

I'm almost ready to install VMWare and set up a Win98 virtual machine, but
it seems ludicrous to spend $200 to be able to run free tools... There
must be a way to run these under XP.

Any help appreciated!
