If you disconnect the serial cable from the KDSP10/DSPx short pins 2 and 3
of the serial cable, you should see the characters you type echoed back.
This will check the cable and the program.

This must work before you can determine if the KDSP10/DSPx is somehow
faulty.

You need a terminal program to talk over the serial port, and then do the
same thing.  There are other ways to do it in DOS, but it has been too many
years since I have used those methods to have any confidence to describe
them.
