A thought,
	There are several levels of "CPLD".

A simple CPLD to replace all of the discrete logic on a dsp-10
could be done with a $1 Xilinx  part with free web based software tools
and a $60 JTAG programmer cable.

This is a very different thing than doing the core DSP functions in an complex.
FPGA, this will involve expensive chips and tools.

I believe that the best compromise is probably a general purpose DSP like the
blackfin and small CPLD's to do the misc housekeeping.
