Fellow DSP10ers

I have been having some back channel discussions about
my DSP10 kit
and the problems I have run into. I have decided to
come out of the
closet
and make public. ;-) This is a heads up for all.

Note, be careful how you wire the cable to P101 or how
you insert this
cable onto your DSP10 board!!! P101 has +12 volts on
pin 1, if you
mistakenly wire the harness wrong or reverse inserting
the connector
unto
the board, +12 volts could be placed onto one of the
unbuffered data
lines
and toast the DSP chip (and maybe more.) Been there,
done that. Note,
this error is difficult to do with the parts called out
by W7PUA's parts
list
or the parts supplied in the TAPR kit, good job guys.

How did I do this you ask??? There's is very little
slack for the
harnesses
to be pealed back for initial powering up or debug (my
interpetation of
the QST pictures.) During my debug process I built some
prototype
harnesses which used AMP Mod 4 style housings and
receptacles (the
quickest parts I could find that day.) As I found out
my AMP
receptacles
did not engage into the supplied housings so I used my
AMP housings
(that
had no keying for mating.) Late one night I reversed
the harness going
to
P101 and +12 volts and was applied to Ser En 2 line...

The Newark part number for the DSP chip is 52F2097 and
the cost
was about $45 dollars. A note for all. Newark's
shipping box had
Commercial Invoice's attached to it (with Customs
Harmonized Codes
called out for each of the items,) this implies Newark
ships
internationally,
give them a call.

If this disaster happens to you contact me. I will be
more that willing
to
use the "proper" surface mount tools (during my lunch
hour) to swap the
chip for you, free.

73s and goodluck to all.
