No, it should keep the setting.  You might try calling Garmin tech support
and see what they have to say.

Concerning TAC32, give it a try.  It'll give you a 30 day trial so you can
decide to register it or not.  It is a very handy program.  Rick W2GPS has
programmed many GPS receivers into it.  The registration fee goes to support
TAPR activities and projects.
