Interesting to see the comments. I have a bunch of tube VFOs, including all
mentioned and a couple more, like the WRL and Knight.
Hands down, for stability and ease of use is the Halli HA5. I use the
Johnson with my Viking I, and the VF1 with the AT1, both for ease of
compatibility issues, but I have at least a dozen more Novice type
transmitters, and use them almost exclusively with the HA5. One of the
reasons it's the best is that it's a heterodyne unit. You can key the mixer
tube and leave the oscillators running for stability.
I actually have 2 of them. One has a bad power transformer. Anyone want to
make an offer on it? It had the bad transformer when I got it, so I can't
vouch for the rest!

Good afternoon,
Just wondering what vintage VFO would be suitable for the Drake 2-NT.
Curious about any that would be stable and easy to hook up...self powered
would be a plus and no solid state (except possibly the rectifiers).
Thanks.....73 de Bill K4JYS
