[Drake] PTO mechanical questions

Some time ago, I picked up an RV-4. Not in the
best of shape, and the tuning knob was frozen,
but the price was right.
Just started today to dope it out, and it looks
like the PTO is a mechanical mess.
Question is, how repairable is the bearing area
in the front of the PTO bracket.
This one is missing all of its ball bearings,
and the shaft is being held in (the wrong)
place by a "C" washer. The washer forces the shaft
to be about 1/8" displaced to the rear, and
the stop pin interferes with the dial drive
idler gear.
Is there any hope for this PTO?
Couple of other questions. Can the
PTO electronics board be removed from the
assembly without destroying calibration
and tracking?
Can the slug be removed from the yoke
follower without damage?
These last two questions may be academic, if
I can't get the tuning mechanism working right.
Thanks in advance.
