I have an old R4A that has severely corroded coper plate on top, even
some rust spots on the top of the chassis. The underside looks brand
new and the radio still works fine in spite of the ugly chassis top.

The problem is caused by pollutants coming in through the 'holey'
cabinets. You can plug the holes (not recommended) or stop showering
the radio with pollutants.
It is nearly impossible to remove corrosion once it sets in. Use of
cleaning products could turn a working radio into one that does not
work anymore. I would leave well enough alone and cover the radio
with a plastic bag when not in use to help prevent future corrosion.

Yeah but that equipment did not have any exposed electronics, did it?
I know the 'knob polishers' go nuts over a little discoloration. My
approach is to avoid fixing things that are not broken. That T4X is
worth about $160 as is. Were it not corroded at all it might be worth
$165.
