Hello,

I have a 7077 mic that someone sold to me for a premium price with a
non-working original Astatic element.  The whole inside of the mic is a
mess-wires cut and parts broken.  But the outside looks like new.  I have
been searching for months for a NOS replacement and no individuals that I
know of have them for sale. Astatic does not have them anymore either and
none of their distributors I have contacted have any left. I just want to
use the mic with my TR7 and get it working rather than throw the parts in
the trash.  Can anyone suggest the absolute BEST element for the TR7 that is
AVAILABLE and that will FIT in the 7077 mic shell and that I can obtain
reasonably quickly?  I really don't care that it is not the original
element.  I do want something that provides the best match for the TR7 and
clean articulate audio.

Thanks for any advice.

John, AK3Z

John,

A few years ago, I helped a friend replace the non-working element in
his 7077 with a Heil HC-5 element.  The HC-5 is certainly small
enough to fit the mic and the excess space had to be filled with foam
rubber or the like which supported the mic element close to the
windscreen.  For this particular repair, the result was clean,
articulate audio.  I don't recall whether we changed the connection
on the mic plug to the low impedance setting but I suspect so (check
the TR-7 manual, I think it may be Pin 4 but don't have the manual
with me at the moment).

That said, I do not know whether Heil will still sell its mic
elements separately.  Now that the company has a variety of complete
mic's to sell, it may shy away from sale of individual elements.

Good luck.
