Greetings Lovers of all things Drake,
I am sad to report that my R4C that developed a poping noise in the audio appears to have a defective T10 50Khz IF transformer. After disassembly the primary of the tranformer is open. I crossed my fingers and hoped it was at the connections to the base but no joy. After testing everything I could that would result in an easy fix I started unwinding turns. 873 turns in I found the break. Looks like the ends had been arching a bit as they made intermittent contact.
About 425 more turns and I had unwound the entire side of the transformer. It counted 8 and a half layers and 1300 turns...plus or minus 10.
This R4C was undergoing restoration for use in my station and is nearly mint inside and out.
Any chance at all that someone would have a spare from a parts rig that I might purchase or horse trade for. I have a TR4 parts rig.
Some stock of tubes etc...
If not I will have to try my hand at rewinding it if I can figure out the wire gauge and find a source.
Any help to get this rig back on the air would be greatly appreciated. It's matching T4XC is waiting it's turn on the bench.
