Larry.....the B-1000 balun bolts on to the back of the tuner adjacent to the
lettering.
It is externally mounted and has a large round black plastic cover over it
with B-1000 molded into it.
If you don't see that....you don't have it.
The balun was sold separately.

Subject: [Drake] MN-4C
I purchased a Drake MN-4c, beautiful condition cause i needed an
additional antenna tuner and i thought this one was reasonable and
capable of doing the job i needed it to do.
The manual that came with it was a photocopy, ok. I got to reading it
and they talk about using a B-1000 balun with open wire feeders although
it has the connections on the back of it for balanced wire feeders.
However it doesn't seem to be able to tune the line as well as i would
have expected it to. The "Resistive tuning" control has very little if
any effect when it's adjusted. The antenna is a "sort of" 80 meter
dipole, length wise anyway but it's doesn't really have the height it
should have (read 15')!
My question is, does the B-1000 actually come with the MN-4C or was it
an externally attached unit? I doubt they are available anyplace
anymore unless you happen to discover one that isn't toasted or
otherwise made useless from the auction place.
There was no schematic nor pictures (ahhh yes, pictures) with the manual
so i'm not sure just what i'm looking for on this. I would think for
open wire you would need a 9:1 balun so the question is, would any other
9:1 balun work in it's place, is it really inside the tuner or do i
need to find the B-1000 Drake unit? I've not taken it apart, no reason
to until maybe now.
