Well, Gene I have gone over the wiring 3 times all is good with that I think.
The question remains why I get continuity between the audio white and shield.
It does not matter if I push down on the PTT bar or not.
It makes a great connection to ground.
I went to the top of the mast and I see that pins #1 and #2 are jumpered.
Pin #1 is grounded and pin #2 is yellow wire which goes to lug #2 on the bus
at the bottom of the mic.
Buss lug #2 is jumpered lug #1 which is grounded to base.
If I run the probes of my ohm meter from lug #6 to lug #2 I show continuity
to ground.
And, that should be the case since the yellow wire on lug #2 goes up the
mast to pin #2 which is jumpered to pin #1 on top of mast.
So, I guess unless you tell me different the wiring is okay.

If so I should wire the mic plug for my SB-401 and Drake as follows.
White = audio
Shield = ground
Red and Black (connected together) = PTT

The R/E should be on R

Does that sound right to you?

I think the crystal element may be the problem.
It is in bad shape and don't know how to test it to be sure.
I tried to find a replacement but can't locate one.
I will probably order a Heil Rag Chew element like I have in my other D104
and look for a good 10-DA head later.
I went to radio shack and they sell an electret but I would have to splice
in to the positive mic line and pull power from the 9 volt battery.
I will try to find a ceramic element in my junk box so I can test if the mic
is working.
Let me know what you think about all this.
I will also post this to the list to see if the fellows can help me out too.
