Scott,
Sounds like a very nice station you have going up.
I'm guessing that the big reason there was no VFO for the 2NT was that
Novices were strictly rockbound for transmitting back in those days. Oh,
and you wanted SSB after you upgraded to General/Conditional you bought
something else like a T4XB. That's likely why there's a fixed crystal
socket on the side of the '4 line that pretty much looks like an
afterthought so Novices with the bucks to swing a 4 could operate legally!

I would have been bummed if I had to go rockbound on my Novice station
(Hallcrafters HT-37/Knight R-100).
