[Drake] L-4B Broken Part Question

Greetings:

I discovered a broken metal band below the windings on RFC-4, the RF/Plate Choke.  All of the windings on this choke are in place at the bottom, no winding overlaps with another above where this band is broken.  

Can I do ahead and fire up the amp with this broken band, knowing that all of the original wiring is currently in place?

And, should I consider homebrewing another band to replace the broken one, perhaps using #14 bare copper wire?  Seems the function of this band is to provide a solder connection for the lower end of the choke winding, and a solder point for two other wires going to the bottom of this choke. 

Any thoughts and words of encouragement would be most welcome.
