[Drake] T4XC Power Switch Question

My off the cuff guess, Paul, is a low-activity crystal (carrier or
filter crystal) or poor alignment of the filter/carrier osc. The
switching to Tune gives it the 'jump' it needs to start oscillating.

Have not had that problem with my Drake T4XB. However, had precisely
that problem with an old Kenwood TS-520. A bit of adjustment to the
carrier and sideband crystals resolved the problem. The TS520 would
not even oscillate in the low-power Tune position, but would in the high
power CW position. The principle is the same, even in the Drake. Cost
nothing but an hour or so of time to repair it.

I would not go replacing difficult things until I had exhausted other
possibilities.
