To quote the first line in specs:  " Preclipping audio compression followed
by RF envelope clipping at the processor intermediate frequency."  This is
in the manual for  my SP75 manufactured Nov 12, 1980 SN 1245.


I operate mine at no more than 12 db clipping , it does not seem to improve
intelligibility when you go to 20 db clipping , and "average" PEP does not
change enough to use the extra clipping IMHO.

I too , regularly get unsolicited comments on the audio sounding good . Ran
it in ARRL SSB Sweepstakes thsi weekend and had many good comments on the
audio TR7/SP75  . I use an ancient  D104 with crystal element.
