Mike,
The main differences to the user include 160 meter and WARC band coverage on
the L-7. The L-4B may handle the newer bands, but not sure. Also, the L-7 is
inhibited on 12 and 10 meters as shipped -- but the conversion is well
documented on the web.
I have the L-7 and have some experience with the L-4B. The L-4B, in my humble
opinion, has a better tube cooling system with the chimney setup. The L-7
cools the tubes with a large (fairly quiet) fan blowing across the tubes. The
tubes in both radios were 3-500Z's. I make mention of cooling but have to say
that the 3-500Z's in my L-7 are the original Eimacs that came with the amplifier
in the 1970's.
