[Drake] Drake B-Line - 600 Hz off

John - To many this "canary" chirping and matching up of the
receiver/transmitter is confusing or it's just sort of out of the norm....With
today's transceivers which are "always" right on and no "chirping" needed. I
have heard that both Collins and Drake used this method (not sure what Heath
did). Using the canary method to being the T4XB up to frequency where the R4B
is is the method chosen by Drake.

To many on this list, when using their B-Lines, they always hear the "canary".
Most times I do not. So to align I use the CW spot method. This gets me
close. I also somewhat "cheat" as I have a "more modern" Kenwood TS940 with
digital readout and to assure me right on the spot, I use it as a frequency
marker. Using the CW spot method tho puts me about 1 Khz low (see first
paragraph, page 18, in the T4XB manual).

Now, I believe what you are saying is that when you use the R4B as a driver for
the T4XB, use find yourself about 600 Hz high. I would think that correct, as
there is an offset from the receiver to transmitter of about 600 hz (this has
been the norm for many years). If one can "hear" the canary, it does make that
offset disappear. I really do not believe you have a problem B-Line (one of
the finest receiver/transmitter pair around). Pages 15, 17, 18, 19, 20 cover
the use of the T4XB/R4B using spearates & transceiving. It's not the most
clear cut of instructions.....if you continue to play with the controls (using
a dummy load of course), I'm sure you can get this pair very close. I
congradulate you on using the R4B as the driver....mine will not drive the T4XB
very well at all (and I'm using good cables....so you have one up on me there).
Best luck and hope you get this to work successfully.
