    Dear Walter,

Thanks for the e-mail. The R-4 receiver will require Parallel =
resonant crystals, 27.5 pf load cap., Fundamental or 3rd overtone, HC-6 =
holder.

    Regards,

    Bill Frost

Can you help me give her the info she need to make some Xtals for my =
R-4, this is the old original one.

Are these fundamental xtals or 3 rd overtone? I sure don't know. Do =
you have any of these. What are they called as the pins are small , not =
like the big pins of the xtals I am used to that we used back in the =
DARK AGES !

  best,

  Walt

  Dear Walt:

We have manufactured for many units of Drake Amateur equipment but we =
have conflicting info from various customers as far as the Load =
Capacitance which is why the customer must state that. If all the =
frequencies you listed are the exact crystal frequencies then I do not =
understand the 12.600 or 17.100 being 3rd Overtones as I have not seen =
3rd Overtone crystals this low in frequency before (have seen them down =
to 21.0 Mhz). =20

We do not manufacture 3rd Overtone crystals below 30.000 Mhz at all so =
I don't think I can help you on any except the 39.100 Mhz. Your info =
shows parallel resonant - but I would still need the Load Capacitance =
(## pF).

If you want to call me at the toll free number (800-252-6780) I will =
be happy to try to make sure we are understanding correctly.

  Thank-you
  Barbara

    Hi Barb:

    it says ...........

IMPORTANT: Only parallel resonant third overtone crystals designed =
for a Miller oscillator should be used.

    it also saye ..............

In order to determine the correct crystal frequency , simply add =
11.1 to the lowest frequency of the 500 KC range to be covered. For =
example; assume you wanted to receive 1.5 to 2.0 Mc for reception of the =
160 meter amateur band. The crystal frequency would be the lowest =
frequency of the desired range (1.5 Mc) plus 11.1 which would equal 12.6 =
Mc. This crystal can then be inserted in any one of the ten accessory =
crystal sockets provided.

I also see in the manual ................

Crystals for the high frequency oscillator are of the parallel =
resonant third overtone type and should have a calibration tolerance of =
.001% to insure sufficient vernier tuning on highest frequencies.=20

But this may be refering to fixed frequency operation, not sure ! I =
don't want that kind of xtal as it plugs into the side of the black box =
rig, I want the kind with small wire pins that plug into the 10 =
individual 2 pin slots in the back.

Aparently you have never sold Crystals to hams with old DRAKE TWINS =
before ?

    INTERESTING !

    Walt

      Dear Walt:

I received your inquiry for crystals below. You will need to =
verify the Load Capacitance and the following information before I can =
quote price and availability on these items.

      1) 12.600 Mhz. (for 160 meters ham). Fundamental crystal - =
Customer must state Load Capacitance - typically 30pF or Series =
Resonant.

      2) 39.100 Mhz. (for 10 meter cw ham) 3rd Overtone crystal - =
Customer must state Load Capacitance - typically 32pF or Series =
Resonant.

      3) 21.1000 Mhz (for 30 meter ham) Customer must state =
Fundamental or 3rd Overtone crystal as well as Load Capacitance - =
typically 30pF, 32pF or Series Resonant.

      4) 17.100 Mhz (for 49 meter swl) Fundamental crystal - =
Customer must state Load Capacitance - typically 30pF or Series =
Resonant.

I will be happy to quote price and availability when you provide =
the information requested above.

I MUST HAVE A DAYTIME PHONE NUMBER WHERE I CAN EITHER SPEAK WITH =
YOU OR LEAVE A MESSAGE BEFORE I CAN ENTER AN ORDER FOR YOU.

Please send further information to my direct e-mail address =
([email protected]).

      Thank-you
