This description of a REGEN kind opf makes me cringe,
but maybe someone will enjoy it:

The link below is a "youtube" video of "toy" regen assembly. The
audio on the video is taken from the radio.

I ordered this little toy vacuum tube radio kit from a company in
Japan that makes all kinds of neat hobby kits, science and radio
kits etc. (www.hlj.com)
It went together in no time, as it's aimed at non-electronic types.
Basically just plastic chassis with a regenerative circuit board
with all the components already soldered. The builder merely snaps
together the parts, screw them tight and winds the antenna loop.
I think it's a great little kit for someone to make with his child
or grandchild.
It actually works quite well in the AM broadcast band. There was
some room left on the loop frame for some more windings, so I
experimented with different turn-counts and settle for the 160m
band, in addition to the AM broadcast band.
This radio now has 160m ham and 120m Shortwave Broadcast. Though
the 160m band is not very stable, I am able to copy W1AW but the
radio drifts too much to copy SSB.
The shortwave broadcasts come through very nicely on the 120m band.
The link below will take you to my "youtube" video of the assembly
and demonstration of the radio's audio.

PS: for those not familiar, 'youtube.com' is a site dedicated to the
public that want to post videos. Do a search on the site for
various radio stuff and you'll be treated to many videos of hams who
have posted videos of their DXpeditions, or stations etc.,
(FROM the GLOWBUGS list.)
