*PLEASE if you are having any COVID, RSV or FLU symptoms DO NOT come to the
clubhouse.*
*TNG – Thursday, August 22, 2024*
DARA Clubhouse, 6619 Bellefontaine Rd. Dayton, OH 45424. The meeting
begins around 7pm.
Jeremy Hong, KD8TUO will give a presentation on the Kraken SDR and Arrow
Antenna. The presentation begins around 7:30.
Recently, Logon Ricart demonstrated a $200 3D printer (Bambu Lab A1 Mini).
While many may use a 3D printer to print models created by others, a more
practical use for TNG members is printing custom parts for our own projects.
Is there interest in a two or three session class to learn how to design
these parts? There's too much going on on Thursday nights to try and do it
then, so I'm thinking of Saturday afternoons after the license classes when
the classroom is available. This would be something hands on where you
bring your own computer. I don't think we would actually do the 3D printing
so you don't have to bring (or even own) a 3D printer. I'm looking for both
students and instructors (or people to be both).
DARA/TNG owns a 3D printer that has never been used (AFAIK) since we
purchased it back in 2020. Maybe we can come up with some way for members
to use it.
If anyone wants to or knows someone who might want to give a presentation
at a future TNG or if you have a topic that you would like to see, please
let me know.
Everyone is invited!!!

The quiz this week was inspired by a type of antenna, which is also an
answer to one of the questions. Enjoy!
T9A06 Which of the following types of antenna offers the greatest gain?
A. 5/8 wave vertical
B. Isotropic
C. J pole
D. Yagi
G9C07 What does “front-to-back ratio” mean in reference to a Yagi antenna?
A. The number of directors versus the number of reflectors
B. The relative position of the driven element with respect to the
reflectors and directors
C. The power radiated in the major lobe compared to that in the opposite
direction
D. The ratio of forward gain to dipole gain
E9D12 What is the purpose of making a Yagi’s parasitic elements either
longer or shorter than resonance?
A. Wind torque cancellation
B. Mechanical balance
C. Control of phase shift
D. Minimize losses
Answers:
