While were all sitting at home working on our radios.....
*Debco Electronics*
All,
Many of you may be familiar with Debco Electronics. They have been
frequenting hamfests throughout the midwest for many years including a
prominent booth at Dayton (Xenia) by R&L Electronics and SteppIR.
This past fall Tom Case (K8CLA), who ran the business with his wife Debbie
since its inception passed away after a long battle with cancer. His
family has been doing their best to continue the business but as many of
you know the electronics parts business is not what it once was. The
majority of their income (and the incomes of many Amateur Radio businesses)
comes from hamfests, and in particular Dayton Hamvention. As a result
Debco Electronics will be closing as a retail establishment and will go to
an online/by appointment/hamfest model within the next couple of months.
They are not shutting down, but rather cutting the losses from the costs of
running a retail showroom so that they can continue and concentrate on the
other aspects of the business.
They carry a wide variety of hard-to-find component parts, RF connectors,
crimpers, RF cables (custom and stock), and Anderson Powerpoles among their
many offerings.
My reason for posting this here is that due to the Coronavirus
cancellations many small businesses that rely on hamfests are struggling
and many may not survive. Before you purchase a part from China (which may
come with a "Free Bonus") or from a mainstream electronics house I suggest
you check with some of these smaller businesses and support them. You
might be surprised what you find and often for lower prices than elsewhere.
To be clear I have no interest in Debco other than being a good friend of
the family - and I would like to see the other small businesses equally
supported during this challenging time.
Debco's contact info is only a Google search away and if you call ask for
Michael (who incidentally is going to test for his Ham license soon (at the
next hamfest he makes it to)).
If you have fond memories, pictures, and such of Tom and Debbie from the
past decades that you would like to share with the family you may send
those directly to them via mail or email at their published addresses or to
me and I will forward them. I am sure those will help the family a lot
while they cope with their loss and this time of difficulty.
Thanks,
Debco is available here:

Stay safe out there....
Steve
