A quickie answer: they make recorders that take HDMI in and record the
signal to memory stick / HD card.

There's probably cheaper solutions.
The main thing with HDMI is that it can require whatever it's connected to
to abide by 'security' provisions that 'protect' from copying...though I'm
sure there's some Chinese thing that can be had to get around that.
It's 2:30am and I was heading to bed, but will nose around some more
