Can you make a temporary insulator from shrink tubing or even small
rubber or plastic tubing? Might work until you can get the correct part.
You really need an insulating washer on the top and bottom with
something to insulate the screw in between. I think Vibroplex uses metal
flat washers on the outside of the fiber washers to even out the
compression on them and to act as shims to adjust the height of the
contact. Similar arrangement on the dot contact.
It seems to me a shoulder washer on top and bottom with inner
diameter to fit the hole, would keep the shaft of the screw from
contacting the sides of the base. Adding a length of shrink tubing would
insure insulation.
If the inner part of available shoulder washers is too long one
could cut it down in some way, probably just cut it with a razor blade
or somethign or maybe file it to the right length. I don't remember what
they look like and don't want to disassemble a key just to look.
BTW, thank you for posting the ARRL band chart. This one is well
organized.
