On the ham bands widen up the selectivity, I used 6 kHz at sea could
copy anything I wanted with the very rare exception of a signal within
200 Hz of the other that was louder, then I'd have to ujse the narrow
300 or 500 Hz filter and do tricks like turn the AGC off and zero beat
the unwanted signal.

The unwanted signal no longer pumped up the AGC on me, and since it
was ZERO BEAT there was no tone, so I could copy the 200 Hz tone of
the signal I wanted.
