Working SPLIT for pile ups

Example: 5Z4VJ is currently on 14007.0 kHz. Set up your station so you
can receive him. If you're using a transceiver, set VFO A = VFO B. Set
your transceiver to use SPLIT operation. Important: Make sure your radio
is set to FULL BREAK-IN / FULL QSK. The DX station has announced he is
listening UP; nearly stations ALWAYS listen UP. Switch to VFO B. Tune
around see if you can hear stations calling 5Z4VJ. I hear them about 1
kHz higher in frequency. Many transceivers have a button that allows you
to receive on the other VFO for as long as your pressing the button.
Find this feature and use it. (YAESU calls this the "TXW" button, I'm
going to refer to this type button as "TXW" button.) While listening to
the DX station on VFO A, press Important: Make sure your radio is set to
FULL BREAK-IN / FULL QSK. hold the "TXW" button as soon as the DX
station is through transmitting, see if you can find the station he is
speaking with. If your transceiver has a DUAL receiver set it up do the
DX station is louder and is on VFO A. Set the other receiver to VFO B,
and tune around for the stations calling the DX. Make a note of which
way the DX station is moving his receiver. Does he move up or down when
he listens for calls. When you have found the frequency the DX station
is listening on, tune slightly to one side so you will not be exactly on
frequency with hundreds of stations calling him. Call him: DE KB6AAA or
whatever your call is. I'd send "DE N1EA", and listen. A few minutes
with the TXW button and you will have your station ready to work split
and get that DX station!

A similar method cab and was used for separate receivers and
transmitters, and quickly shows the advantage of having TWO receivers,
one for the DX station, one for the callers. I and many others just
quickly tuned back and forth with one receiver, or strictly observed the
DX stations advice "UP 2", tuned up there, spotted our VFO and called
when the DX station was listening.

I cannot stress enough the importance of using QSK.  When you hear the
DX station sending STOP sending immediately. Listen!

Please feel free to add to this or correct any errors I've made.
