I was Straight Key first, bug next, single lever paddle now. Never will learn or master iambic. Crappy typist so will likely not go keyboard...
As a CW only op since 1967, I have become less critical to the realization, I appreciate any and all CW qso or other CW activity on the bands, straight key, cootie, bug, electronic keyer, single lever paddle, iambic paddle, key board...
So many friends and other ops going SK.....sadly.........CW may go silent one day...hopefully long time in the future
Any method that works for the individual is FB for me.
Happy Holidays to all

He has it right for himself, anyhow.  But like every evangalist-for-this-or-that, he ignores a significant portion of the population.
For 20 years I’ve been afflicted with BET.  Without my iambic keyer I would be QRT.

Get it down with a straight key first, then it won't be such a stretch when you do it with a bug. The problem most people have with the proportions of the code have to do with an insufficient internalization of the rhythm of the code. That is my biggest beef with those who would use an iambic keyer to teach (and learn) the code. It becomes a case of letting the machine do the work. I worked with a straight key for 15 years before I started using a bug (which happened when I started prepping for my Extra, in the late '70s). Regular attendance on the W1AW code practice transmissions also helped. To this day, I send cleaner code with a bug than most people using keyers. - AL7W ______________________________________________________________
