See page 43 for close up photos of the addition to the keys and a few
examples of this very rare and unusual method of keying unknown outside
Russia. I call it a "cootie dasher."
This originally was on the CW reflector in 2018.
Readers of this Reflector can see Lery's book here:
See page 42 and 43,

The translated text with additional comments by myself in [brackets] is:
SEMI-AUTOMATIC MECHANIC KEYS ON SERVICE IN THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR [WWII]
The second BUG knob - the right one [the one on the right] - is a sign
[indication] to indicate that this the key was most likely used during the
war.
The fact is that such a BUG specification [design] has become simply
necessary, and there were several reasons for this. The main thing is the
handwriting in the transmission of the radio operator. On-
For example, one radio operator tends to lengthen the second `` dash ''
in letter Щ,
those. _ ___ _, another - to shorten the last dash "in the number 1,
those. _ __ ______ or lengthen the second line in the number 7,
those. ___ __ _
There are a lot of options for handwriting [telegraphy "fist"] features.
Identification of these features was one of the most important tasks of
radio monitoring intelligence of the Gestapo. According to them, it was
possible with a very high degree of reliability [to] determine the location
or movement of military units or groups.
So the second pen [lever] on BUG allowed you to transfer the sequence
"dash" with a uniformity close to automatic transmission. Sketch signs
[elongated dashes] were eliminated almost completely, the transmission
quality was significantly improved and the speed increased.
Such ``two-handed '' semiautomatic devices were most effectively used in
special radiosservices of the USSR and many more years - until the end of
the 80s - after the war. The second the pen [lever](photo 55a, 55b), as a
rule, was attached to the existing BUG (photo
55-58).
Made in the USSR at the beginning of World War II for use on
communication lines of special radio services. Limited number of telegraph
keys during the war were produced by the Moscow plant Electropribor.
End of Russian translation,
Lery answered me privately - off list - and I think it's because I
have "conservative, original old fashioned" email reply settings
applied to for this email list.
I will review those settings, I think I have it set to "reply to
either the LIST or the author, at their choice." and most are used
to: Reply to List.

Thank you very much David for your congatulations.
Practicaly all my articles , books and participance in CW Contests
were taken into consideration which resulted in what you have known
from my post . As for the story of the bug with Cootie Dasher one can
read it in my book The Keys Connected Continents. That's that ...
