[CW] Off Topic - Arrecibo Observatory to be Demolished

Very sad, but I'm not surprised.  Radio telescopes, especially the early
pioneering ones, were/are very large (at least partially) movable & unique
structures ... quite an engineering challenge, built on shoestring
budgets.  Remember the collapse of the old 300-ft in Green Bank, now
replaced by the Green Bank Telescope.

Then add battering by numerous hurricanes & a rust-rich environment.  And
scraping for funds every year.  While science politics may have been a
factor, I'm leaning with the committee in favor of safety.
