[CW] Off Topic - Arrecibo Observatory to be Demolished

Yep.  This is some seriously bad news.  

I have a lot of thoughts on this, surrounding the denigration of science, budget cuts, the general nature of the me-and-only-me mentality, the Tik-Tok and nearby generations, and other topics, but will refrain because someone would undoubtedly take offense thinking it was political.  It isn’t political.  This is a significant loss, that one might think could possibly have been avoided with a bit more attention, planning, and —of course— money.  I doubt this will be the last … because this stuff  never becomes an 18-49 demo fan-favorite reality show.
