THE GRANDFATHER OF ALL CONTINUOUS WAVE (CW) STATIONS, SAQ 17.2 kHz
(yes you read that right!) has been heard as far east
as Indiana - but mostly from Maine to the Carolinas. The Christmas
transmission is easiest to hear because of darkness, but if you have
the equipment give it a try.

Hello Friends,

to all who are interested in real old radio-stuff: Grimeton Radio SAQ,
the last remaining machine-transmitter, build in 1926, will be on air
this Sunday with 2 transmissions. One Startup and Tuning at 8.30 utc
with Transmission of a message at 9.00 utc and one Startup and Tuning at
11.30 utc with the message at 12.00 utc.

The frequency is 17,2 khz. So you will need a special vlf-Receiver, old
maritime-rx, homebrew equipment or a converter.

The Transmitter is only on air at the first Sunday in July and on
Christmas-Eve.

I received it many times with my simple homebrew dc-rx and an e-field
active-antenna.

It has a real wonderful and unique cw-sound accompanied with typical
earth-radio qrn.

The Signal also can be received oversees. SAQ serves for the
telegram-line from Grimeton in Sweden to New York. But you must be far
away from powerline and other man made noise.
