CONTEST:
contests (plural noun)
1. an event in which people compete for supremacy in a sport, activity, or particular quality

I am no longer a serious contester but I do enjoy the challenge, speed, propagation, staying awake after it gets dark, etc....Some of the big guns have invested a LOT of money in operating locations, rigs, antennas, lodging and food for contest teams, etc.....
Just another perspective.
This is a hobby and there is something for everyone....isn't that great?
Happy Thanksgiving to all...
