SLAP(ping) for mechanical bug users, is one meaning of SLAP, just
requiring a heavy bug base in order to prevent the bug from beiing
lounched by the operator. Another one introduced here of SLAP is Single
Lever Action Paddle.
Confusing, isn't it ?
Which paddle should I use, Single or Dual Lever Action?
He wrote : "However, if you are new to sending Morse code, I recommend a
Dual Lever Action Paddle for the following reasons."
Of course you can use a dual paddle in a single paddle way, however one
of the reasons these days using Morse code is not anymore that it is
the best way to transport your msg, that must be so un-important that
even the public telephone and telegraph should not be used for it, in a
man made noisy, and QRM and QRN environment. But to honour and
remember the untangible cultural heritage of long range communications
over land and sea as it started to exist.
So starters in Morse code should be encouraged to use a straight key,
especially to prevent them sending faster than they can copy.
I am missing the cootie, the forerunner of the bug, it is best suited
for seasoned guys that have seen it all, and just want to keep contact
with fellows in the overtime of their existance, accompanied with rheuma
and artritus in their hands and a shivering uncontrolled reaction time.
So a real amateur, that is in my definition a person constructing his
equipment himself, hence being not Japanese box purchasers, it is a key
that is easily manufactured from some old scrap that is available in
each household that does not throw away ss garbage everything that is
defect or weared out, but saves it for future imagination about a second
life.
