The AAA period and the IMI Question Mark Were used in the mid 50s by the Army, and by us Hams, and of course, still is. The IMI you might hear in a sentence or text is the signal that the last word, before the IMI, is being Repeated. It is normally used for People, or Place names, to insure correct copy. So, it is really signifying two different things: the question mark, and "repeat last word" Most of the Western world used pretty much the same codes, then you have Asia, and the Middle East, plus Russia etc. with Morse differences, since they also have different letters in their particular languages.
