Alway good to work USN stations and operators.

Served in USCG as a radioman from 1962-68 (also served aboard a Navy ship along coast of Cuba and Latin America AGR-1 for almost a year) used code then. Even got my speed key certificate. Coast Guard started to phase code out in early 70s and eventually gave the “sparks” insignia to IT geeks.

At RM school we were taught that code should be fast, but readable and accurate were our watch words. Sent most of the TTT and XXX bulletins at about 16 WPM so everybody could copy. Loved the late night watches.

I later on went to work at a few coast stations on the east coast while in college.
