Since the press transmissions were for subscribers only that
would make sense. There were two transmissions a day one on
Pacific time the other Eastern time. RCA and MRT transmitted from
their main stations only. I heard press only once from WNU and
it was hand sent and interrupted by normal traffic. That is the
station would send some press then break for message traffic and
then send more press. The RCA and MRT stations handled normal
traffic on some of their frequencies. KPH had a long message
listing them send during silent periods when they broke the press
transmissions. All this disappeared sometime around the 1980s to
be replaced by RTTY transmissions.
