I have observed some of the same...I think you may have answered your own question though. They don’t know, they left the rit is on, they really don’t care a whole bunch, and yes, we are all getting old! Honestly I am at the point, with so few CW ops on the air, that I appreciate any CW op getting on, calling CQ, at any speed, with any signal or fist. Many ops are in their 80s now and will soon be SK. I treasure each QSO. I thought I would never buy a rig with a “fish finder” but I love my little IC 7300 cause I can catch those rare CQs on the scope, pounce and have a rag chew. I am much more tolerant now that I too am an OM, more forgetful, and there are fewer and fewer of us CW ops in this great hobby.

It amazes me that alot the time I cant hear the other half of the QSO unless my filter is wider than 500 Hz. When folks were rock bound it was understandable but how can anyone using modern rigs ( 30 yrs or newer ) not know that they are 600 Hz off zero beat? Is it that they dont understand zero beat, maybe they used the RIT and forgot it was set +500, maybe they just dont care that they are using twice the bandwidth that they need to! And then they get bent out of shape when some unsuspecting ham pounds out QRL? on what appears to be a vacant spot on the band.... Maybe I am just getting old.. hi hi
