There’s no way to reuse the old retaining rings.  They were imbedded in the original feet, and end up left behind UNDER the rivet head.  The old foot is thoroughly destroyed by removing it.  I did not attempt to pull and reseat the rivets.  Just left them in place.  So the rings had to go to allow the new feet to sit firmly against the base.

I think even if you could pull the rivets and reseat them, the opening in the new feet isn’t large enough to accept the old retaining ring.  A dot of super glue won’t prevent removing the new feet if those ever need to be replaced, probably long after I will no longer care I suspect :-)
