Hello Steve,
You're right - the Radiotelephone license was officially called "General
Radiotelephone Operator's License (or certificate)" - GROL and
Administrations (like Posts and Telegraph Department, Department of
Commerce, Federal Communications Commission - the national government
department overseeing radio) were given the option of having a higher
examination - so we and some other countries had a First Class
Radiotelephone Operators License - but if you look on the face of both the
1st phone and 2nd phone you will see in small print under FIRST CLASS
RADIOTELEPHONE OPERATORS LICENSE the small letters "General Radiotelephone
Operators License" - which is also called "GROL".
The Telegraph license was never known as anything else besides
Radiotelegraph Operator's License - so it will continue to be known as
that.
I can soon convert my nice T1 license to a T license - as long as I pay
$70.00.
Progress is not lost on me.
