Here is one non-destructive solution, not necessarily the *only* one:

Only way to send. HI.
No, to slow it down, by putting more weights doesnt work. You are
right, in that extending the length of the pendulum appears the way to
go, but, I recently saw where guys were building up the weight
vertically versus horizontally, and it worked. Take a look around and
search "slowing vibroplex speed" and probably find a good dozen
different pictures, etc. Mine is the one I used on Diplomatic
Telecommunications Service nets. Old, Black surface, and has sent a
million messages.

Me, too. My
uncle Stu gave me the bug he used as radio operator on a bomber
over
Europe. It's a Vibroplex (not Lionel or another maker, but the Real
Thing)
Lightning bug with a 1941 manufacture date on the nomenclature plate.
It
sends faster than I can receive, even with the weight all the way out.
I
suppose
I need to lengthen the pendulum with an extension bar.
Stu's SK
now, but the bug still works fine. When he gave it to me, it was set
up
for REALLY BIG MOVEMENTS of hand/fingers/wrist/arm/left_foot: the bar
looked
like a grain flail at work, and the bug sounded like one, too.

I do. Brain cramp. I
send faster than I think, these days.

Great articles. Thank
you!
I never get any cramping while sending
with a bug.

DA sending closing message on Night of
Nights 11 <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYhrSEERvbI>
DA sends with her flying fingers! I
learned to send by rolling my forearm.
RCA
KPH operator Denice Stoops (DA) uses a wonderful
fingerwork flourish but it isn't the way I was taught
to
avoid cramping and other bug-a-boos of bug sending.
Here
is a video of myself at a Speed-X semi-automatic key -
I
discuss sending and set up of bug:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NjjviNVaW8
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NjjviNVaW8>
Here
is a closeup of bug setup looking at the damper
adjustment - "just so it touches the wheel on the
damper
- and the damper wheel is unrestrained so that it
moves!".

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpAuWL7vnMI>
I
always asked the best operators I ever heard for advice
and I was told I could send faster, longer, and clearer
by rotating the forearm to send. I have found this to
be true.
More on
KPH including a half hour video and more DA sending!

<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mXrpkU7CCI>
Even though I recommend my method of bug sending, I
could watch DA sending forever! I'm boring next to
her!
