Ken, the SGC SG-237  is an auto-coupler, not a tuner.  It connects directly
to the antenna, balanced or unbalanced,, converts the impedance to a
nominal 50 ohms to the SO-239 port out to the antenna.

If a short piece of ladder line is ever used it's best to consider it a
extra bit of antenna, not a transmission line.

Myself and Michael Laronda the dear departed inventor WA1OMI found that if
ladder line is spaced one foot apart there is no longer any mutual
impedance, thus if it is spaced this way, it does not form a transmission
line but just an "antenna feeder" which is an extension of the antenna.

This was put to good use in Laronda's High Efficiency Small Size HF antenna
(Pat. Pending). A coffin sized one works well on 75 and 80 meters.
