Ken, no balun required and SGC recommends against any outboard balun use
whatsoever.  I have a special SGC cable that runs the shielded 12 VDC
cable parallel to the 50 ohm coax.  SGC sells it by the foot. I'm using
25 feet.

David, SGC is not the only producer of autocouplers today but I'll say
that mine is 10 years old and has been in constant use with not a single
problem.  It's rated for 100 watts max and 3 watts minimum is required
to initiate tuning and it's been a most reliable and effective solution
for this townhouse dweller.  Although I operate primarily QRP, I
sometimes switch in the 100 watt amplifier and at this higher power
level, there's no RF floating around the shack.

Any discussion of compromise antennas for those of us who don't have
much choice in the matter is really a chore because what works in one
environment won't always work in the other guy's environment.  Most
discussion usually end up in arguments.   All I can say is that I can go
from 80 through 10 with up to 100 watts by just jabbing my TUNE button
on my KX3.  Actually I don't even have to jab the button because if I
just start sending, the SGC237 finds a match in a split second anyway.
If I want to run QRP or QRPp below the 3 watts, I just tune on
frequency first at 5 watts and then adjust the power downward.  The
autocoupler holds tune just fine.

I looked for any mention of a balun
between the SG-237 and the ladder line.  Seems like without one
the "ground" terminal of the SGC, and the shield of the coax, and
the DC power lead (maybe the SGC is getting DC power through the
coax) would all have a bit of RF voltage on them. Not saying this
would make it not work. Just seems like it would be nice to try
to
force the currents in the ladder line to be equal and opposite.

The feedpoint autocoupler is (not
         *was*) an SGC237.

If you don't mind tell us all about the feedpoint
             autocoupler, autotuner?
