[CW] TWENTY EACH - 80M & 40M CW BAND CRYSTAL COLLECTION ON EBAY

I doubt there are enough QRPers on the air to be using all the surviving ham band crystals.

And, not all homebrew crystal controlled rigs are little novelty jobs built on a cat-food tin. Some of the AM phone guys run a full gallon with a crystal controlled transmitter. Occasionally you might run into someone on CW running 100 watts or more with a homebrew crystal controlled transmitter.

But still, the number of hams who use direct straight-through crystal control are a tiny minority, just as, unfortunately, are those using a transmitter home built from scratch. In any case, way too few on the air to have essentially bought up all the ham band crystals still in existence. I suspect they have been grabbed by a sub-set of hoarders, possibly going overseas.

Speaking of homebrew, it is now extremely rare, except maybe for the QRPers, to hear ANYONE on CW using a homebrew built-from-scratch transmitter. Mine is homebrew, running a pair of triode tubes in class-C. Almost inevitably when I operate CW, the other op tells me this is the first time in a long time he has contacted anyone using a homebrew rig and sometimes even a transmitter running class-C. I doubt most of to-day’s hams even know what a class-C final is. Most of the homebrew rigs on the air these days are on AM phone.

Over the years ....The QRPers and the home brewers have bought up CW xtals .... we have quite a number of them ... Tuna Tin ... Mighty 4 watter ..6L6 .... etc ..

There is nothing quite like having a QSO using a non-kit rig that you have built yourself .....
