SOME MAY BE INTERESTED IN A DECADES LONG COLLECTION OF USEFUL CW CRYSTALS ON EBAY

I wonder what has happened to all the amateur frequency crystals. They used to be easy to find at hamfests, and usually sold for no more than a few bucks each.

Lately, I have noticed at major hamfests like Dayton that 99% of the crystals I see are for non-amateur frequencies, and those still seem relatively plentiful, but amateur frequencies seem to have vanished off the face of the earth! With so few hams operating crystal controlled these days I don’t see where the demand would be to buy up and hoard hamband crystals the way the audio crowd buys up and hoards triode transmitting tubes and audio transformers, or why hams who have crystals in their junkbox would hold on to them so tightly. Nor do I see any reason that hams who once used them would have thrown out all their old crystals, while holding on to the rest of their stuff and peddling it at hamfests.

The crystals must be somewhere, I wonder where.
