Ron ..... thanks ...  I have not had any email exchanges with you that I can remember .... I don't know why you sent this to us ?
Yes... we agree about some of the poor CW on the bands ... it does not seem to matter if it is a hand key or an electronic keyer ..

We just had our first SKN QSO for 2014 .....
I haven't used my old Novice J-38 since the SKN a year ago .... it is tiring and a bit of a challenge ... BUT ... that is how we all started.
It is good that we have this event ... the ham radio world has changed a lot.... but with this we can remember how it was one time ..
Next year will be 60 years on the bands for us ...

We have a video with the old J-38 in action ...  click on the link ...

Subject: [CW] Clueless ( as in not a clue )

Am I the only one noticing that more and more operators are completely clueless about the art of sending CW? I can generally copy 25+ WPM of GOOD code. That would be code with nominally correct dit to dah ratios and spacing's.  It doesn’t have to be perfect but geese! There are ops out there that I couldn’t copy at any speed! A long time ago in a galaxy far far away we would call them LIDS. Dits that are barely contact closures and dahs that run on and on with no break between letters let alone words!!

Sorry! Just felt the need to rant! I feel better now!

73 es Happy New Year! Ron K3PID
