When first licensed in 1973 my XYL insisted that I get a "new key" to
celebrate my long desired achievement, not my idea, I was happy with my
J-38. We went to the radio store and I bought a cheap Vibroplex bug and
it gave me fits.
I wrapped the weight with sheet lead (from my fishing tackle box) to
slow the dits down, but five words a minute was off the end of the
capability of the grey thing.
I wound up manually keying the dash lever (sideways) until the
electronic keyer was developed which has a much wider speed adjustment.
I relearned at 20 wpm and now I teach and preach iambic keying, but I
enjoy pictures and discussions of all code paraphernalia very much.
