This is why the old ARRL Learning The Radiotelegraph Code books always
list the characters as dah di dah dah and never as - . - -
The spelled out sounds make it more difficult to associate the look of
the combination of dits and dahs with the characters, and forces you to
think of the sound instead.
Thinking in terms of how dits and dahs look on paper is another indirect
method of conversion that adds mental steps to the process.
This is based on the assumption that you listen to CW to copy. Apologies
to any deaf CW ops who use other methods.
